I hate Photoshop. It’s slow. It’s clunky. The files it produces are huge. I have no clue how anyone renders a web mockup in Photoshop and then processes that out into usable markup. Need proof of why Photoshop sucks?
Why is “Can’t Undo” not grayed out? There’s a real product, right there. Worth every penny!
My beef about Photoshop comes from alpha channel rendering. I think it’s safe to say that as we approach the Year of Our Lord Jesus Christ, Two Thousand and Ten, we can start using a few PNGs here and there with transparency. Why Photoshop insists on starting up with a “Background” layer is beyond me. How many of you have a process that goes like this:
- Open Photoshop
- Wait for Dock icon to bounce about 7 times
- Look at the splash screen
- Click-and-drag lock icon next to “Background” layer to trash
I’m a Fireworks user. At least it starts with half as many bounces and doesn’t have that annoying background layer by default. Yet.
Although, I would love for Fireworks to figure out how to draw a 1px line. This is, honest-to-god, the actual PNG file I just made. I even left the layers intact for those of you inclined to download it:
And, Adobe, WTF is this? Can I drag this corner to resize or do I need to lightly tickle its balls first? Answer: yes, you can resize this window in Fireworks. But you don’t ever get the OS X “resize” cursor to tell you that. This is step one in Fireworks: resize the window down to your usable canvas area. Why Adobe thought Mac users wanted to see all that gray on their screen like Windows users is beyond me.
For all the crap you people ship for such god-forsaken prices, don’t you dare ever take Fireworks away from me.
Photoshop has too many clicks, too many menus and too many options. I just want to quickly add a vector mask now and then. I don’t even know how to do that in Photoshop. Fireworks does fades to transparency in about 3 clicks.
Speaking of fades, has anyone ever made the gradient they actually wanted in Photoshop, on the first try?
No you have not.
UPDATE: I forgot to mention that I hate Adobe for messing with my “Open With” menu for image files. Even HP did a better job with their crappy scanner software:
