I recognize the world doesn’t need another white guy talking on a podcast, but, here we are, talking about books I’ve read and writing work I’m pursuing.
The first episode, recorded in the fall of 2021, talks about Herman “Baron” Lamm, a Prussian soldier who gets ejected from the military for cheating at cards. He winds up in the U.S. determined to put his military precision to use robbing banks. He gets caught in Utah and spends his prison time thinking about a better way to rob banks.
For anyone interested in their craft, this guy is an unusual bit of inspiration. He invents the idea of casing banks, drawing escape routes, and figuring out where the money, customers, police, staff, and exits are before charging in.
I’ve been working on drafting a piece for publication sometime in 2022 and this is a “director’s commentary” on that work. Future episodes are also recorded as videos.
