With the new iOS 18 updates my phone now easily shows me how many miles I’ve walked, biked, etc. for various workouts. And because I use my watch to track virtually every bike trip I’ve ever made, I realize now I’m closing in on 10,000 miles since 2018.
- 2018: 600.37
- 2019: 660.43
- 2020: 2,157.52
- 2021: 1,597.02
- 2022: 2,048.50
- 2023: 1,517.22
- 2024: 863.11 (so far)
- TOTAL: 9,464.17 miles
The Covid years saw a big increase in biking since it was about the only thing I could do.
If I had bought a brand-new Toyota Corolla in 2018 and driven it 10,000 miles, that’d be 2.61 metric tons of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere.
So far this year I’ve spent 94 hours on a bike and burned over 54,171 calories. On average, biking around, I burn about 80,000 calories a year.
To say nothing of the cost savings.
And: this is all that I’ve tracked. I sold my car in 2011. So there’s 7 years before that (and before the advent of the Apple Watch) of who-knows-how-many-miles. Those years included my twice-weekly cross-county trips from Irvington to High School Road, too.
